Introduction: The Case for Etiquette

The term "etiquette" is often dismissed as something old-fashioned, as concepts of good manners date back to the Victorian age, and many seem impractical or even inappropriate in the current age. While the particulars of etiquette have changed, its core remains the same - to be courteous of others, with the goal of facilitating social interaction - and that remains as important today as it was in ages past.

In the modern business environment, people skills are critical to success at most levels of the organization, and increase in importance among the ranks of managers, executives, and leaders. Attending to etiquette does not guarantee success, but failure to attend to it almost certainly leads to failure in one's business relationships.

EN: Etiquette is also a topic to be approached with some trepidation, especially in the multicultural workplace of today. Coupled the fact that this author doesn't consider cultural differences until the last chapter, and then in very superficial detail, indicates the need to approach this book with a critical eye and take advice with a grain (or a tablespoon) of salt.
