Preface

The author asserts that "business intelligence" is claimed to be a top investment priorities for many companies, but actual implementation is "modest with significant untapped potential." Business people perceive BI results in information overload and an inability to derive any relevant meaning, and those in the BI profession feel that there is little executive support and that business users simply don't "get it."

She refers to the schism between business users and technical experts, and implies that the failure of BI is a result of their inability to understand each other. The intention of the present book is to bridge the gulf, with an eye toward building a basis of mutual understanding that will enable companies to exploit the potential of business intelligence.
