Why Authority Still Matters
The modern trend toward self-managing teams has led to a hands-off style of leadership, in which the exercise of authority is seen as counterproductive.
It is suggested that authority is still necessary to provide direction for the team - to give it a sense of purpose, and a vision of the desired end-state, and keep the team on the rails.
Unfortunately, it's too short a treatment, and it doesn't provide much in the way of a "why" or a "how" for this simple assertion.
